Confirmation

In the course of their Christian development, those baptized at an early age are expected, when they are ready and have been duly prepared, to make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to  the responsibilities of their Baptism and to receive the laying on of hands by the bishop. (from the Book of Common Prayer, p 412)

Because most people in our tradition are baptized as infants, we have the rite of confirmation to allow individuals to make an adult affirmation of the faith they hold. Preparation usually involves at least five meeting sessions with a priest and an ongoing commitment to service in the church. Confirmation of older youth and adults takes place during the bishop’s annual visit to St. Paul’s or at one of the regional confirmation. Contact Rev. Jenny (jreplogle@stpaulspeoria.com) if you are interested in being confirmed.
