Early Communion Class

Children are welcome to fully participate in all parts of our service, including communion. In our tradition, we learn by doing, and this is particularly true of the Eucharist. No one can understand what it means to be part of communion without partaking in communion itself – tasting the bread and the wine and knowing they are welcome at Christ’s table. But we recognize that some instruction as to what is going on in the service is helpful to children, so we offer early communion classes each year. There are two parts: a Passover Seder that teaches where the tradition of the Lord’s Supper comes from, and an instructed Eucharist, where the priest walks children through the service and explains what is going on. Contact Rev. Jonathan (jthomas@stpaulspeoria.com) if you would like your child to be part of the next early communion class.

This fall, there will be classes on October 5, 19, and 26 at 5:30pm. We will celebrate the children participating in communion on All Saints Day, November 1, at the 10:30am service.
